THIRD NATIONAL SMALL FARM CONFERENCE
These national small farm conferences provide training for specialists, technicians, farm advocates/entities, and others who work with small farmers on a daily basis. Attendance more than doubled at the Second National Small Farm Conference in 1999 with nearly 700 extension educators, scientists, farmers, and public and private sector organizations attending. The 2002
conference will focus on developing a more concerted effort to help the survival and economic viability of small farms as an "at risk" small business operation.
The Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau and New Mexico State University are working closely with the U.S. Department of Agriculture,Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service and other sponsors in coordinating conference logistics.
Nine major airlines - including American Airlines, America West, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Southwest Airlines, TWA and United Airlines - service Albuquerque with non-stop and direct flights from 58 cities in the United States and Canada. The lowest round-trip airfares to Albuquerque range from \\$80-$400, depending on
location, airline and time of year for travel. Arrangements for blocks of rooms at the federal per diem rate for the conference at hotels located close to the Albuquerque Convention Center in downtown Albuquerque--the site of the conference are in progress.
Updated information will be posted on the small farm website
www.reeusda.gov/smallfarm as it becomes available. A meeting brochure with conference program and other information is also under development. This
includes participant registration information, as well as exhibit and poster application materials for exhibitors.
